Adopta A Panamá Rainforest — ADOPTA for short — is a non-governmental organization (NGO) created to promote the conservation of forests and their sustainable use for the benefit of the people and wildlife of Panamá. We support our on-the-ground conservation efforts through education initiatives and research projects that aim to improve our societal understanding of biology, ecology, and management strategies. COMACO

COMACO is a social enterprise that supports wildlife conservation and small-scale farmers in Eastern Zambia.

We work with illegal wildlife poachers to provide alternative livelihood skills and train small-scale farmers in the leading practices of climate-smart, sustainable agriculture. We then buy crops from our farmers at premium market prices and turn them into high-value food products that we sell across Zambia under the brand It’s Wild! Through dramatically improved incomes and increased food security, our farmers have become stewards of their land and advocates for wildlife conservation.

CONSERVATION OF THE ESPECES MARINE

For some time now, there have been indications that sea turtles are laying their eggs on the coast in southwest Côte d’Ivoire. There is still no single protected area for a stretch of coastline, however with the help of partners, this non-governmental organization, together with the population of a stretch of coastline at Grand Béréby, aims to create a positive future for humans and animals. CEM has initiated a process with the aim of establishing a marine reserve in southwestern Côte d Ivoire near Grand Bereby.

We have created three cores of natural reserves throughout the biogeographic region of the high windows, in order to know the social and environmental dynamics and through these conservation nuclei, develop actions that lead to ecosystem connectivity, allowing the natural balance of these forests. With the community, we seek to generate knowledge appropriation and propose socio-economic alternatives related to the protection of biodiversity to guarantee the protection of endangered species and improve ecosystem connectivity.

CWCS works to actively contribute to shaping the conservation landscape throughout the country of Cameroon.

DALUHAY

The love for nature, the passion for working with marginalized communities, primarily the fisherfolk and indigenous peoples from the central Sierra Madre in northeast Philippines led to the establishment of Daluhay, a moniker for Daloy ng Buhay, which translates in English to flow of life. Daluhay has also adopted the concept of think global, act local as expressed by the phrase, one planet – one future. Daluhay envisions a world based on human equity and responsible engagement for environmental sustainability where people are integrated with ecological systems from local settings to global functions. In April 2010, Daluhay became registered as a non-government organization with the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission and is currently based in Aurora Province. Since then Daluhay has expanded into areas of biodiversity conservation through the concept of ethnoecology – people as part of the ecosystems. The primary focus has been on the establishment and management of locally conserved protected areas, food security and poverty alleviation and included efforts in forest, agricultural and marine ecosystems through community-based engagement on social development. Daluhay facilitates an enhanced inclusion of people in the ecosystems on which they depend and the development of feedback loops that link people to positive change for a sustained biosphere, as a specific approach (that we consider to be best defined by the term: ecosystemics). We aim to help establish better links between human health and the environment in an ecohealth approach.

DAYU BIIK

ACCMP Dayu Biik works to protect the Mont Panié wilderness reserve, highest peak of New Caledonia, located in the south of the island’s largest forest. With the support of NGO Conservation International and the Province Nord Institution, Dayu Biik Association is managed by members of the local community. It is in charge of developing a participative conservation plan for Mount Panié Wilderness Reserve aimed at preserving biodiversity of the region and promoting the development of economic activities related to the nature conservation and environmental education.

The EWT’s team of field-based specialists is spread across southern and East Africa, where committed conservation action is needed the most. FORUM KONSERVASI LEUSER

FKL currently operates 26 Wildlife Protection Teams across the 2.2 million hectares of the Leuser Ecosystem in Aceh Province. Each teams consists of 5 members (4 members are FKL ranger and one government ranger), patrolling for at least 15 days every month to collect data on wildlife presence, assist wildlife surveys, dismantle snares, and become ambassadors for their communities to protect the forest. Since FKL rangers were formed in 2014 to protect key areas of the Leuser Ecosystem, FKL rangers have dismantled over 5000 snares. As recent as 2018, rangers dismantled more than 800 snares in the Leuser Ecosystem.

GREEN Mindanao Association

GREEN Mindanao Association Incorporated founded since 1991 by Mountaineers, ecologists, volunteers and students. Early years were engaged in advocacy, education and campaigning againt illegal Logging, pollution of seas and destruction of forests. Past 25 years focused on site conservation of mountains and coastal ecosystem throughout Mindanao; supporting protected areas, marine sanctuaries and tribal land rights. At least 10 years were spent on Exploring Mountain and survey of coastal areas, birdwatching, Monitoring endangered species, tribal solidarity meetings and promotion of Conservation and Protection of wildife and habitat. Partnership with local communities, local government and concern agencies and international organizations nurtured our legacy. Ten-year old campaign now “million hectares forest campaign” target to engage million people for Protection of mountains and tribal lands. Latest achievement nearly half of the target through divegent regimes such as; national protected areas, tribal wildlife sanctuaries and municipal protected areas. These were undertaken in alliance with DENR officials, tribal leaders, municipal and barangay councils and Civil Society partners. Past 10 years were also engaged on actions on Climate Change, disaster, recovery, rehabilitation and Management. All these efforts were interconnected, state of Nature and Oceans protected and Conserved Will determine life on earth, resilience and survival. Recent partnership with Rainforest Trust provided opportunity on Species Conservation and venture into protected area establishment and purchase of nature option.

GUINEAN PARK FOUNDATION

Guinean Park is a non-profit organization which was established by committed conservationists in order to save biological diversity of Guinea, and conserve it to the next generations.

Habitat Para la Biodiversidad (HABIO)

The Turtle Conservancy has purchased a significant portion of the last remaining habitat of the Bolson Tortoise (Gopherus flavomarginatus). The largest of the North American terrestrial reptiles, this tortoise has been known to science only since 1959. The Bolson Tortoise inhabits a small area of Bolsón de Mapimí in the Chihuahuan Desert of Mexico. The Mapimí Biosphere Reserve was created to protect this species, but much of this land is used for agricultural development and cattle grazing, which is threatening the tortoise’s habitat. The acquisition of this land in north central Mexico will protect the tortoise along with all other native flora and fauna including an estimated 28 mammals, over 200 bird species, 5 amphibians, and 39 reptiles.

HEN MPOANO

Addressing the impact of development, natural hazards and climate change: Hɛn Mpoano’s work in coastal communities in the Western Region has included an innovative Rapid Assessment of the vulnerability and adaptive capacity of 77 coastal communities in Jomoro, Ellembelle, Nzema East, Ahanta West and Shama Districts. Detailed planning work was undertaken with some of the key communities which were identified as being most at risk. This has fostered a process of community action and interaction with District Assemblies to tackle the interrelated issues of increasing coastal poverty, livelihood insecurity and vulnerability in the context of accelerating change.

HERP CONSERVATION – GHANA

Our mission is to undertake research, create awareness, mobilize response for important policy, build capacity and contribute expertise on the conservation of amphibians and other wildlife in Ghana and internationally. Our five main strategic objectives are:
1. Improve knowledge on amphibians and reptiles in Ghana and across West Africa through cutting edge research
2. Facilitate policy interventions relevant for amphibian and reptile conservation in Ghana and across West Africa
