Rainforest Trust is a highly efficient and effective U.S. nonprofit founded in 1988 with the mission to purchase and protect threatened rainforests and tropical habitat to save endangered wildlife through community engagement and local partnerships. To date, we have saved more than 19 million acres across 50 countries at 126 project sites with the ambitious goal of protecting 50 million acres by the year 2020. The Director for Philanthropy will have direct management and funding responsibilities towards achieving the overall development and operational goals for Rainforest Trust in regards to corporation and foundation giving. This description provides a summary of the work, while the individual fundraising goals and performance indicators will be outlined in a performance plan.
This position reports to the Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO).
The Director for Philanthropy is responsible for:
Leadership
- Support CPO in developing overall strategy and income goals
- Manage a growing team of officers and assistants focused on corporate and foundation fundraising
- Participate in the creation and development of all Rainforest Trust campaigns
- Coordinate with Rainforest Trust’s Conservation Department to determine funding opportunities
- Coordinate with Rainforest Trust’s Communication & Outreach Department to maximize partnerships and facilitate campaign execution
Corporate Giving
- Ensure that the Conservation Circle corporate giving program is being executed such that Rainforest Trust and our partners are receiving appropriate benefits
- Meet Conservation Circle 2018 funding expectation of $1.5M
- Develop strategy for growth of Conservation Circle in 2019 and beyond
- Maintain and grow existing corporate donors in the Conservation Circle
- Sign on new corporate donors to the Conservation Circle
- Develop unique campaigns to highlight corporate partners and promote Rainforest Trust to their stakeholders
- Develop impact measurements as needed for partners
- Prepare and write reports for corporate partners
- Increase opportunities for employee giving within individual corporate partners
- Represent Rainforest Trust at corporate events, conferences and meetings
- Create and execute corporate marketing events and opportunities
- Promote Rainforest Trust annual campaigns as appropriate with corporate partners
Foundation Giving
- Supervise the Foundation Officer to ensure that all foundation income goals and deadlines are being met
- Facilitate and assist in grant and report writing as needed
The candidate will work in our central office with 35 staff in Warrenton, Virginia, just 45 minutes west of Washington DC.
