Every action we take now to protect rainforest will have a lasting impact on the future by maintaining our planet’s critical ecosystems.
Over half of the world’s rainforests have been destroyed, and almost 70,000 acres more are lost every day. If current rates of deforestation continue, all of our planet’s original rainforest could be lost within decades, resulting in massive extinctions, accelerated climate change, and increased desertification. With your help, we can make a difference.
We strategically address emerging threats before it’s too late.
Rainforest destruction has been swift, as palm oil plantations, large-scale farming, logging, cattle pastures, mining and oil drilling rapidly expand. It’s estimated that 137 plant and animal species go extinct as a result of rainforest loss every day.
Our pioneering conservation model allows us to rapidly respond to imminent threats, protecting land that is in the most immediate danger. We do this through direct land purchases and by partnering with local organizations to help create wildlife reserves that will continue to protect delicate ecosystems long into the future. Thanks to this innovative approach, we are saving enormous expanses of intact pristine rainforest—some of our projects protect more forest than the largest national parks in the continental United States.
Proven track record of successfully saving rainforests around the world.
Since 1988, Rainforest Trust has been protecting threatened tropical habitats and endangered species in the most biodiverse areas of the world.
Our collaborative conservation model is founded upon long-term strategic partnerships in host countries with the leaders of outstanding local conservation organizations. By partnering with people on the ground in the countries where we work, we help enable endangered species to rebound while providing education, training and economic assistance.
We operate with the utmost efficiency, transparency and integrity, which helps ensure that Rainforest Trust consistently receives the highest efficiency ratings (4/4 stars) from Charity Navigator and other independent charity evaluators, due to our exemplary standards of public accountability, program efficiency and cost effectiveness.
Preserving rainforests has a direct impact on our daily lives.
Preserving rainforest is a critical, effective strategy for fighting climate change because of the rainforest’s enormous capacity to store extra carbon that would otherwise accelerate climate change. Over 20% of the world’s oxygen is provided by the rainforests of the Amazon alone. Rainforests are also nature’s medicine cabinet as numerous life-saving medicines come from tropical plants. With the majority of rainforest plants still unknown to science, future scientific discoveries are jeopardized with each acre that is destroyed.
