The Hug 100 Trees campaign has been backed by Springwatch presenter Michaela Strachan, who has asked people to go out and hug some trees to save the rainforests. Michaela says, “We’ve all missed hugs in the last year, so let’s celebrate hugging by doing Rainforest Trust UK’s Hug 100 Trees challenge! The natural environment has been such a huge source of comfort and brought so many of us peace and calm in our recent uncertain and chaotic lives. It’s time for us to give back, and what a great way to give back – raising money while giving hugs!

Be A Tree Hugger for the Rainforests!

Put simply, we can’t survive on a planet without trees, so show them some love by becoming a Rainforest Trust UK tree hugger. You can hug any trees you like – in your local park, a nearby woodland, a beautiful forest, your garden, even in the street! You can hug all your 100 trees on the same day, or spread your tree-hugging throughout the summer – it’s entirely up to you. The only rule is that they must be 100 different trees.

Share Your Hugs on Social Media with #Hug100Trees

Please share your fundraising page, and photos of you and your family hugging your favourite trees, on social media using the hashtag #Hug100Trees so that you can inspire people to sponsor you. Why Rainforests are so Important for the Planet

Rainforests store and sequester billions of tonnes of carbon, protecting our planet from the damaging impacts of climate change. They also provide vital habitat for half the world’s species, many of which are endangered. But tropical deforestation is once again on the rise, and now contributes about 15% of net global carbon emissions – the same as the global transportation sector. In 2020 alone, the world lost over 30 million acres of tropical forest – that’s nearly an acre per second. So now it’s time for us to step up and show trees how much we love them, and save the rainforests for future generations. THE RAINFOREST CLIMATE ACTION FUND

All money raised in the Hug 100 Trees campaign will be directed to our Rainforest Climate Action Fund, which supports our most important carbon-rich rainforest protection projects. Protecting the planet’s rainforests may be the most efficient way to fight climate change, and together we aim to permanently lock in 15 billion metric tonnes of carbon by 2025. All #Hug100trees donations to the Rainforest Climate Action Fund will be doubled, meaning every pound you raise will protect twice as much rainforest!
